Film and contemporary composer Max Richter’s epic score for the nocturnally restive is the basis of this unique documentary.
Richter (‘Waltz with Bashir’, ‘Ad Astra’, ‘My Brilliant Friend’) created the eight-hour composition ‘Sleep’ as an accompaniment to rest. In Natalie John’s fascinating film, in which a performance of the piece before a night-time LA audience lying in beds under the stars is combined with a probing exploration of the nature of sleep, the richness of Richter’s soothing music comes to the fore. The resulting film is, by turns, entrancing and compelling.
